An objective template will be created to guide you in the appropriate information to place in a public note. Any notes that you believe may be problematic for the therapeutic process can be placed in the private note option (ex. Information about past trauma). Please note that any notes placed in the private note are inaccessible to anyone who may be covering your case in your absence. Only public notes are accessible to both patient and providers.
Initial visits are 90792, and follow-up visits are 99213 (an additional time code 99214 is available for visits that extend beyond 15 minutes, but we actively discourage providers from regularly using this code as the price of reimbursement is the same between 99213 and 99214).
If a visit is started but not completed, for any number of reasons, you can use this code to signify a “failed visit” and the patient will not be billed.
A NOC representative will be providing appointment reminder calls to patients for all psychiatry appointments. Providers and patients will also receive a reminder email and/or text.
All psychiatrists are expected to coordinate their leave dates with the AMG Medical Director of psychiatry. This will ensure that secure messaging is turned off for the provider and for coverage to occur. Regarding coverage workflow all patient calls will come through the L1 Call Center. A NOC Amwell is a registered trademark of American Well Corporation Page 4 AMG Psychiatry Associate FAQ (Network Operations Center) representative will screen the initial call and message you regarding the issue. If you are unavailable, the Medical Director of the telepsychiatry program will be covering cases until your return. If a patient must be seen the alternate provider in your state will cover in your absence and any work done will be documented in the note section of a patients chart. Additionally, the provider will send a notification to you regarding the patient’s care.
Please note that if a prescription is being issued in the Amwell system it will NOT be sent to the pharmacy until the visit wrap up (the documentation) is completed. Initial visits are blocked for one hour of time, which is 45 minutes of face-to-face session time with 15 minutes after that for prescribing and notes. Similarly, follow up visits are set for 15 minutes which allows for 10 minutes of face-to-face time and 5 minutes for note taking and prescription refills. Documentation expectations are that all notes be completed within 24 hours of the visit. Please note that prescriptions cannot be generated until the notes have been completed.
Your notes can be seen by the member with the exception of a private note which cannot be seen by anyone other than you which would make it difficult for case coverage in your absence. We ask that providers use the public note as often as possible questions regarding this issue should be directed toward the AMG Medical Director of Psychiatry, Anthony Sossong.
Amwell | Medical Group (AMG) is a physician-owned and operated medical practice. We service our payer health plan, health system and employer group patients via American Well's state-of-the-art, HIPAA compliant, video-based platform. Our telepsychiatry offering is staffed by board certified psychiatrists. Our offering includes a national urgent care practice, a national behavioral health practice, which includes therapy, as well as a nutrition practice staffed by registered dieticians. We practice across all 50 states - 24 hours/day, 365 days/year. Our providers are both single- and multi-state licensed and credentialed to work with our client referrals across the country
Providers can access the Amwell platform from most computers (PC, Mac) with a high-speed internet connection and video capability. Our mobile app can be accessed via most Apple devices (iPad or iPhone).
Psychiatrists are paid $175/45 minute intake and $60/15 minute follow-up.
Practicing telepsychiatry can be an extremely rewarding experience as you acquire a new skill set utilizing cutting edge technology. Many practitioners find convenience and flexibility in being able to provide services through the comfort of their own home or in addition to the work they do while in a clinic setting. In terms of profitability we currently estimate that psychiatrists assume a 30% hit with overhead expenses due to brick and mortar costs and can also acquire an additional 5% due to administrative costs. Practicing with the Amwell MedicalGroup removes these expenses as AMG handles everything including eligibility verification, claims payment, and any other insurance issues. By practicing with Amwell Medical Group providers can experience cost savings and directly pocket profit made from telepsychiatry service delivery.
Currently, the patient population is direct-to-consumer meaning that most patients are being seen out of the comfort of their own homes. This group largely consists of a commercial population who are experiencing run-of-the-mill anxiety, depression or adjustment disorders. In the future as the Amwell MedicalGroup expands into Medicaid we expect to see more acute cases. The Amwell MedicalGroup currently does not see patients with a primary diagnosis for substance use disorder, patients dealing with psychosis, and patients who have typically had 3 more hospitalizations within a 90-day period (unless there is a community based support available).
At this time, we are marketing to ages 18 and up. Our child and adolescent psychiatry specialist coverage needs to be consistent across the states before we can announce that we are providing that service.
We are asking providers to load their schedules a month out. The expectation is that you would be showing availability for the entire month no later than the first date of that month. We ask you input a minimum of one hour per week. Please note that loading more hours increases your chances of booking appointments as you are offering expanded availability.
In order to join our network, physicians must have all of the following:
Our application process is simple! Providers will visit https://providers.amwell.com/ where they can complete and submit a credentialing application. If the provider’s credentials meet our criteria and the provider’s attributes match our current needs, we will put your application in process right away. If applicants are unsure about moving forward, they will have the opportunity to speak with a member of the Onboarding team for more information.
For safety purposes it is important that you ask where the patient is currently located and that you confirm that address and telephone number with the patient. If emergency responders need to be called it is important that you have this information readily accessible for our NOC team who will assist you in the event of an emergency. Please see the emergency policy and procedure.
After that, we encourage getting into the habit of confirming their pharmacy information, to ensure that you will be sending their medications to the correct location.
For urgent technical, scheduling, or clinical issues during a visit (such as needing emergency assistance for a patient you are seeing), you can always contact NOC. They are on-call 24/7 to assist you, in real time. The best way to access them is through the Community Site, where they are available through the chat function. For less urgent issues, you can submit a ticket to NOC.
There are several federal regulations around Electronic Prescription Controlled Substances (EPCS). In keeping with these regulations, Amwell Medical Group will not prescribe EPCS direct-to-consumer (in patient’s homes), but may prescribe when a patient is being seen through a partner in-clinic site. Prescribing EPCS will occur through MD Toolbox which is a third party vendor verification system. If a provider is given privileges through MD Toolbox they will be allowed to prescribe only when a patient is in an in-clinic setting. Additional training and information will be provided to any psychiatrist who is required to provide this service. As an alternative the Amwell MedicalGroup does offer a standard letter to a patient’s Primary Care Physician to coordinate the writing of any controlled substances. The AMG Medical Director of Psychiatry is available for further discussion on this issue.
Patients can self-schedule (initial visits only) by logging into the platform and scheduling an appointment by either date or provider. If the patient selects date, they can review times available on that date (sorted by provider) and schedule at their desired time. If they opt to schedule based on provider, they can review providers’ profiles and schedule based on that providers’ availability.
